Health issues relating to traumatic brain injury (TBI) can persist for years. Through proactive management, individuals with TBI can maximize their health for higher quality and independent living.

Amanda Rabinowitz, PhD, (top left) institute scientist at Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) and director of the Brain Injury Neuropsychology Laboratory, and Drucker Brain Injury Center Clinical Director Tom Watanabe, MD, (top right) are working with a group of researchers led by Flora Hammond, MD, of Indiana University to develop a transformative new approach for proactive management of TBI. The "BeHEALTHY model" aims to optimize the diagnosis, evaluation and management of TBI by creating professional education opportunities for clinicians, developing tailored self-management approaches for patients, and bringing about structural changes to the healthcare system.

Initiated at the end of 2020, the project will take 5 years to complete and is funded by the National Institute of Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation (NIDILRR). MossRehab is proud to be one of the TBI Model Systems sites participating in this project.
